I received my training through the traditional route of midwifery education, apprenticeship. I started my apprenticeship in January of 1999, and received my Certified Professional Midwife certification from the North American Registry of Midwives in March of 2004.
During my years of education, I attended midwifery training workshops at The Farm, have become, and maintained, both neo-natal resuscitation and child/adult CPR certification, and attended many workshops on various topics such as newborn screening, emergency I.V. preparation, suturing, newborn hearing testing, cord blood banking, and aromatherapy during labor.
My husband, Scott, and I live in midtown Memphis with our two home-born children, Brighid and Kade. Scott is an urban sawyer, recycling trees that have been cut down into useable lumber, and also a community activist. Currently, when I am not engaged in my midwifery duties, I spend my time wiping crayon marks off the wall, preparing snacks hourly, changing children in and out of bathing suits, pretending, and occasionally hiding so I can knit.
