I received my BSN in Nursing in 1969 and have practiced in a variety of urban and rural settings in California and Minnesota. In 1999 I completed my certificate in Nurse Midwifery at the Institute of Midwifery, Women and Health at Philadelphia University in Pennsylvania. I received my Masters of Science in Midwifery from Philadelphia University in 2005. I am licensed in TN and MN.
I am honored to practice midwifery and share in women's lives. Experience in health care and organizations serving those in need, blended with my experiences as a woman and a mother with a profound belief in the sacredness and normalcy of birth shape my practice. I welcome the wisdom gained from working with women, my life is enriched by each opportunity to share a moment on this journey. I believe birth can be a life transforming experience and I am privileged to work with women and their families at all stages of this transformation.
I have been blessed to birth two sons who have been my greatest teachers. Greg, born in 1972, passed on in 2002. He brough so much into my life and taught me that joy can exist even in the presence of pain. We all grew up together and his gentle and loving spirit, along with his laughter, lives on in our hearts. Derek, born in 1978, is a farmer (yes, there is hope for those little ones who refuse veggies or anything green). Growing up in MN, he went east for college and graduated from Drew University in NJ in 2001 . He is now firmly rooted in the northeast. Katie joined our family when she and Derek married in November 2006. They live in Dartmouth MA where they own and operate Brix Bounty Farm . Active in the susatinable farming movement their forcus is on investing in natural capital (soils) and human capital (communities) to ceate a source of real wealth. In addition to the work they do together, Kaite works with the Office of Campus and Community Sustainability at U MASS Dartmouth.
Since moving to TN in 2003 I have enjoyed living in rural Fayette County with a variety of critters as companions. I am leaning to spin wool and other fibers with the help of many talented Memphis area fiber artists. In quiet times, I read for relaxation and learning. And while still largely a dream, I also try my hand(s) at the Hammer Dulcimer, an instraument I have always longed to play.
